About Ben

Ben Watanabe is a sports journalist whose work has appeared in various print and online media. He specializes in enterprise reporting, having analyzed the lack of racial and gender diversity in high school coaching, revealed oversights in academic support for college athletes and chronicled the end of the Hofstra University football program.

His work has appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Portland Press-Herald, The Express-Times, The Patriot Ledger and Dime magazine, among other places.

Ben was an award-winning reporter for The Daily Journal newspaper in Vineland, N.J., when he became convinced the future of journalism lay online. Facing the combination of a sour economy and the uncertain state of the media industry, he quit his job and returned to school to earn his masters degree in Digital Journalism.

Ben currently is Content Editor of the Digital department at the New England Sports Network. He is formerly the Boston Celtics beat reporter for NESN.com, and has provided on-air analysis of the Celtics and NBA on both live and taped TV.

He lives in the Boston area with his wife, Natalie, and two daughters.
